Season Opening Skid Snapped as Tigers Split Day's Action

Colin Barlow

KISSIMMEE, Fla.- It wasn't pretty, but the Tigers will take it. The first win of the season, a 4-1 defeat of Waynesburg, snapped a seven-game rough patch to begin the season for head coach Becky Hall's women. Earlier in the day, Wittenberg also dropped a game to Geneva, 3-2.

In the first of two error-marred games, the Tigers scored both runs off the bat of freshman Tori Amicon (Galloway, Ohio/Hilliard Darby).

Against Waynesburg, the pitching did most of the damage, as Melisa Shock (Bellbrook, Ohio/Bellbrook) and Meghan O'Neill (Springfield, Ohio/Central Catholic) combined for 11 strikeouts.

At 1-7, Wittenberg looks to get on their first winning streak of the season on Thursday, March 12 against Defiance and Simpson at 1 p.m. and 5 p.m., respectively.
