WILMINGTON, Ohio - The Wittenberg Tigers are a young team in search of an identity. Three straight losses to the top three teams in the powerhouse Ohio Athletic Conference in the last week, capped by Tuesday's 71-53 defeat at Wilmington, indicate that the Tigers remain a work in progress.

Wittenberg shot just 27 percent from the field in the 18-point defeat, including just nine percent (2-of-22) from three-point range, as the Tigers dropped to 2-3 on the season. Wilmington improved to 4-1 on the campaign.

The Tigers fell behind by double figures early in the first half and never recovered, despite trying numerous different combinations of players in an effort to find some kind of consistent offense. Junior guard Megan Miller led Wittenberg with 10 points, while junior wing Rachel Clark-Haggy and sophomore wing Ellie Stonecash added nine points apiece. Junior post Kathy Hittle was limited to eight points, eight below her average and the first time this season she hasn't reached double figures in scoring.

Wittenberg was outrebounded by 12 in the game, but Hittle was strong in that area, leading the Tigers for a fifth straight game, this time with eight boards. Senior guard Brittany Landreth had a decent stat line, as well, finishing with four points, five assists and four steals in 21 minutes of play.

Wilmington put three players in double figures, led by 19 points from Kelly Peters, who was coming off a 33-point performance against DePauw.
