Wittenberg Bounces Back With Big Win At Earlham

Carrie Dyer
RICHMOND, Ind. — The Wittenberg Tigers put together a fine all-around effort to keep pace with the top teams in the North Coast Athletic Conference (NCAC) with a convincing 80-52 victory.

The win snapped a modest two-game skid and moved Wittenberg back to the .500 mark at 7-7 overall. More importantly, the Tigers remained in a second-place tie in the NCAC with a mark of 6-1. The Quakers, who lost both meetings with the Tigers in 2007-08, dropped to 2-14 overall and 1-7 in the conference.

Wittenberg pounded the glass and dominated the paint in running away from undermanned Earlham, which put just seven players on the court in the game. The Tigers owned a whopping 51-27 rebounding advantage and scored almost at will in the lane to take the lead from the outset and never look back. Wittenberg held a 38-23 lead at halftime and the Tigers slowly built on the lead over the final 20 minutes.

Senior post Katie Gregorevich (Northfield, Ohio/Walsh Jesuit) led the way with 23 points on 10-of-14 shooting from the field. Gregorevich also led both teams in rebounding with nine, including five at the offensive end.

Sophomore wing Carrie Dyer (Copley, Ohio/Copley) was solid as well, contributing 14 points and six rebounds in her second consecutive starting assignment. In just 18 minutes of floor time, Dyer hit 7-of-10 shots from the floor.

Rounding out Wittenberg's double-figures scorers was sophomore post Stephanie Boardman (Cincinnati, Ohio/McAuley) with 13 points and five rebounds off the bench.

Wittenberg put 16 players into the game while shooting 49 percent from the field, although the Tigers were 0-for-6 from three-point range.
