Brittany Baume, a 2003 graduate of Wittenberg University, was named assistant volleyball and women’s basketball coach in 2005.

Baume enjoyed four standout seasons as an outside hitter for the nationally ranked Tiger volleyball team between 1999 and 2002. In 1999, she was named North Coast Athletic Conference Newcomer of the Year and Player of the Year, the only player in the history of the conference to be honored with both titles in the same season. She added first-team All-NCAC honors and All-Great Lakes Region honors in 1999 and 2000.

A three-year team captain, Baume ranks seventh in school history with 1,234 career kills, and her 602 kills in 2000 also puts her seventh in school history. She garnered third-team Verizon Academic All-District IV honors in 2001 and second-team in 2002.

Last year Baume served as a volleyball graduate assistant coach at Urbana University and helped the Blue Knights to a school record 29 wins on the season. She also serves as a Junior Olympic volleyball official for the Ohio Valley Region.

Baume earned her bachelor’s degree in biology from Wittenberg. Immediately after graduation, Baume, who was a high school letterwinner in basketball and volleyball at nearby Southeastern High School, was a supervisor for the Science Resource Center at The American School in Tokyo, Japan. She also coached both volleyball and basketball while in Tokyo.

Assistant Coach Phil Sikorski

Springfield native and South High School graduate Phil Sikorski joined the Wittenberg women’s basketball coaching staff in 2001.

Currently a counselor at Lincoln elementary school in the Springfield City School District, Sikorski is a 1994 graduate of Wright State University and a 2000 graduate of University of Dayton, where he received his master’s degree. Sikorski has coached 13 years at various levels, most recently as the head girls basketball coach at Springfield North from 1997-99, and from 1999-2000 he was a varsity assistant with the girls team at Northwestern High School that finished 24-2.

Sikorski and his wife, Lisa, reside in Springfield and have three children: Miranda, Andrew and Madison.

Assistant Coach Becky Leonard

Becky Leonard joined the Wittenberg women’s basketball coaching staff as a volunteer assistant early in the 2004-05 season.

A native of Springfield, Leonard is a 2000 graduate of North High School. She went on to play basketball at West Virginia Wesleyan University, an NCAA Division II program before eventually earning her undergraduate degree from Ohio University in 2004.

Leonard is currently a first grade teacher at Plain City Elementary in Plain City, Ohio.

Assistant Coach Tom Franz (Retired)

After 13 tremendously successful seasons, Tom Franz has decided to end his service to the Wittenberg women’s basketball program. His contributions will be missed.

Franz retired after a 24-year career coaching the Mechanicsburg High School girls’ basketball program. Franz, who at one time also coached boys’ basketball, had a 364-196 career record.

A 1959 graduate of Ohio State, Franz also owns a master’s degree from the University of Dayton. Franz and his wife Brenda reside in Mechanicsburg. They have five grown children.
