SPRINGFIELD, Ohio – A solid 2006-07 winter sports season wrapped up for the Wittenberg University Tigers over the last two weeks as the North Coast Athletic Conference (NCAC) awarded 19 Wittenberg student-athletes with postseason honors. Five Wittenberg student-athletes were selected to the men's and women's basketball All-NCAC teams, while another 14 claimed their awards based on individual finishes at championship events for men's and women's swimming and diving (Feb. 8-10) and men's and women's indoor track and field (March 2-3). CLEVELAND, Ohio — Gina Carney (Lexington, KY/Catholic), a 5-5, senior guard/wing, paced the Tigers in wins over Hiram, 71-41, and Earlham, 70-40. She provided a spark off the bench against the Terriers, hitting all five shots from the field, including a quartet of three-pointers, and finishing with 16 points to go along with two rebounds, two assists and two steals. SPRINGFIELD, Ohio — It would be a bit of a stretch to say that the Wittenberg Tigers are finally hitting on all cylinders, but after a second straight 30-point North Coast Athletic Conference victory, this time at home over Earlham, 70-40, it is fair to say that they have some momentum for the first time in 2006-07. Wittenberg upped its mark to 8-6 overall on the season, including a 5-1 record in the NCAC. The win was the Tigers' third straight, while Earlham slipped to 2-13 overall and 1-5 in the conference. HIRAM, Ohio — It took nearly 48 hours to complete, but the end result was quite satisfying as the Wittenberg Tigers put the finishing touches on a 2-0 road trip with a 71-41 victory over host Hiram. The Tigers led 37-25 early in the second half when the lights went out in Hiram's Price Gymnasium, causing a delay of nearly two hours. Finally, the teams and officials decided to pick the game up in process on Sunday at 4 p.m. Wittenberg went on an offensive tear as soon as play resumed, and the end result was a decisive win.
