The only other win in recent history came at the end of the 2007-08 season, when the Tigers came up gold in a tournament at Manchester. This field was substantially stronger, including scholarship programs from the host school, Walsh, Northwestern Ohio, Urbana and Malone.
As if all that wasn't enough, the Tigers blew away their previous best team score for both 18 and 36 holes. Wittenberg finished with a 343 on Day 1, a 333 on Day 2 and a 676 overall, besting the host Panthers by four strokes and Walsh by 12.
This was the first time the Tigers can boast an individual medalist, not to mention the first time Wittenberg has ever put players in the top two positions in the final standings. Senior Jennifer Petro (Louisville, Ky./Sacred Heart) led with matching 80s for a two-round 160 and first place by one stroke over freshman teammate Anne Busam (Cincinnati, Ohio/Ursuline), who went 82-79 to finish with a 161.
Busam was actually five strokes ahead of the next competitor. Wittenberg's next individual finisher was freshman Carrie Frey (Cincinnati, Ohio/McNicholas), who carded a 173 to place ninth, followed by sophomore Anna Bencriscutto (Oro Valley, Ariz./Ironwood Ridge) with a 182 for 22nd place and junior Krissy Herman (Cincinnati, Ohio/Oak Hills) with a 194 for 32nd place.
The fall season comes to a close next weekend with a very special event. On the weekend of her induction into Wittenberg's Athletics Hall of Honor, Pat Clouse, the team's head coach from 2003-07, will additionally be recognized with the first-ever "Clash at the Clouse," an invitational tournament hosted by the Tigers at Windy Knoll Golf Club Oct. 11-12.
