Tigers Take Second At Shortened Transylvania Invitational

Jennifer Petro
LEXINGTON, Ky. - Only Mother Nature could keep the Wittenberg Tigers from their appointed position atop the Transylvania Invitational. The Tigers completed the first round on Sunday to take a three-shot lead on the host Pioneers, but several other teams did not, and the official results reflect a tournament shorted to 16 holes from its anticipated two complete days.

As a result, the Tigers wound up in second place, a tantalizing two strokes behind Transylvania. Officially, Wittenberg finished with a 327, while the Pioneers carded a 325.

Individually, senior Jennifer Petro (Louisville, Ky./Sacred Heart) finished with a 79 through 16 holes to take third place. Through 18 holes, Petro would have moved into a second-place tie, three strokes off the pace set by Janca Millett of Transylvania.

Her teammates weren't far behind, led by freshman Carrie Frey (Cincinnati, Ohio/McNicholas) with an 81, good for fifth place. She would have been in a fourth-place tie at 90 through 18 holes, while freshman Anne Busam (Cincinnati, Ohio/Ursuline) posted an 82 for sixth place.

The Tigers' busy week continues Thursday with the Ohio Northern Invitational, which has been shortened to one day from its original two-day schedule.
