BIG RAPIDS, Mich. - The Wittenberg Tigers kicked off the 2009-10 season with an outstanding finish at the Ferris State Invitational. Competing against an 18-team field primarily comprised of NCAA Division II scholarship programs, the Tigers placed ninth and easily outdistanced the other three NCAA Division III programs in the final standings.

Wittenberg shot a two-round total of 675 - thanks to rounds of 332 and 343 - to finish 99 strokes over par and 78 strokes behind Grand Valley State. The next closest NCAA Division III program was Hope, which finished seven strokes - and three places - behind with a 682.

Individually, sophomore Anne Busam (Cincinnati, Ohio/Ursuline) was Wittenberg's top finisher with a 160, good for a 24th place tie. Freshman Meghan Greene (North Royalton, Ohio/Padua Franciscan) placed 46th after a strong 81 in the opening round, while sophomore Heather Hendrickson (Fort Wayne, Ind./Bishop Luers) and sophomore Nicole Momsen (Sylvania, Ohio/St. Ursula) added a 172 and 173, respectively. Hendrickson placed 55th and Momsen finished 59th.

The Tigers have a return engagement in Michigan next weekend as they travel to Olivet.
