Tigers Take Strong Third At John Carroll Invitational

Jenna Lisic
CHESTERLAND, Ohio - The Wittenberg Tigers are in construction mode. To become a bona fide contender for a spot in the NCAA Division III Tournament, the Tigers must learn how to put together multiple strong rounds of golf - a lesson learned in a third-place finish at the John Carroll Fall Invitational.

After finishing just seven strokes off the first-day lead - and five strokes out of second place - the Tigers posted a Day 2 score 10 strokes above Saturday's 358. Champion Otterbein improved by 15 strokes to comfortably win the tournament, while second-place Ohio Northern improved by two strokes to outpace the Tigers by a whopping 22 strokes in the final standings.

Wittenberg's young squad did manage to secure its stranglehold on the third position with its second-day 368 to finish with a 726 - 42 strokes ahead of Mount Union in fourth place.

Individually, freshman Jenna Lisic (Orrville, Ohio/Orrville) turned in the best collegiate performance of her young career, shooting 91-86 to finish sixth with a 177. Sophomore Nicole Momsen (Sylvania, Ohio/St. Ursula) was right behind with an 85-94 for eighth place with a 179.

Two other Tigers placed in the top 20. Sophomore Anne Busam (Cincinnati, Ohio/Ursuline) finished 16th after shooting 91-97 for a 188, and sophomore Heather Hendrickson (Fort Wayne, Ind./Bishop Luers) placed 19th with a 100-91 for a two-round total of 191.
