May 10, 2001 - Wittenberg suffered a tough loss to end the season on May 1, losing 9-8 at home to Ohio Wesleyan on a last second goal in the quarterfinals of the NCAC Tournament on May 1. Senior Kati Robbins (Collegeville, Pa./Methacton) had four goals and an assist in her final collegiate game.

Robbins leads the NCAC in assists (40) and points (86) and is fourth in goals with (46), totals that also rank her among the nation’s leaders and the all-time best in Wittenberg history. Sophomore Cara Romanowski (Collegeville, Pa./Perkiomen Valley) is third in goals (47) and fifth in points (54).

May 2, 2001 - Wittenberg finished in a tie for fourth in the NCAC regular season standings with Ohio Wesleyan and received the No. 4 seed by virtue of a victory over the Bishops during the regular season. The two teams meet for a third time today in the conference tournament, with the winner moving on to play second-seeded Kenyon in the semifinals Friday on the Ladies' home turf. Semifinal winners return to Kenyon for the championship match on Saturday.

Senior Kati Robbins (Collegeville, Pa./Methacton) was named NCAC Player of the Week after breaking the Wittenberg and NCAC record for assists in a season. It was her second such honors this season.

Robbins has 39 assists on the season and also leads the conference in points with 81, while ranking fifth in goals (42). Sophomore Cara Romanowski (Collegeville, Pa./Perkiomen Valley) had four goals in a 21-5 loss at Wooster. She ranks third in the conference in goals (45) and is tied for fourth in points (51).


April 24, 2001 - Wittenberg takes a two-game winning streak into the final week of the regular season after going 2-1 on a tough three-game road swing to conclude last week's action. Wittenberg lost 13-10 to Ohio Wesleyan in a non-league game on Thursday, but the Tigers rebounded to capture a 16-5 win over Allegheny on Saturday and an 8-3 victory over St. Vincent on Sunday.

Senior Kati Robbins (Collegeville, Pa./Methacton) had four goals and two assists in the loss at Ohio Wesleyan, while sophomore Cara Romanowski (Collegeville, Pa./Perkiomen Valley) had six goals and Robbins five in a 16-5 win at Allegheny. Robbins ranks first in the NCAC in points (71/5.92 per game) and assists (33/2.75), and also stands second in goals (38/3.17). Romanowski is fifth in goals (35/2.92) and sixth in points (40/3.33).

This week, the Tigers host Earlham on Senior Day Wednesday and then travel to second-place Wooster. The team's four seniors - Robbins, Cereescia Sandoval (Lawrenceburg, Ky./Tates Creek), Danielle Paglino (Troy, Mich./Marian) and Jennie Stone (Damascus, Md./Damascus)- will be honored prior to the Earlham game. Those two games will round out the team's regular season and hopefully give the Tigers momentum going into the NCAC tournament next week.


April 18, 2001 - Wittenberg fell behind 17-5 at halftime and lost 26-11 at Denison in its only action last week. Still, senior Kati Robbins (Collegeville, Pa./Methacton) had five goals and ranks first in the NCAC in points (55) and assists (28), while standing second in goals (27). Sophomore Cara Romanowski (Collegeville, Pa./Perkiomen Valley) is sixth in the conference in both points (30) and goals (25).

The Tigers now head into a crucial stretch of the 2001 season. Three tough road games await, including conference match-ups with Ohio Wesleyan and Allegheny that will go a long way toward determining Wittenberg's final spot in the NCAC standings.


April 12, 2001 - The Tigers stand in third place in the NCAC and face an important game at second-place Dension on Wednesday. Wittenberg continues to be led by its Collegeville, Pa. duo of senior Kati Robbins (Methacton High School) and sophomore Cara Romanowski (Perkiomen Valley).

Robbins leads the NCAC in scoring at 6.13 points per game and assists (27/3.38) while ranking fifth in goals (22/2.75). Romanowski is tied for sixth in scoring (3.0) and second in goals (23/2.88).

Last week, the Tigers defeated Ohio Wesleyan on Tuesday in a tight home match, 7-6. Wittenberg held the lead throughout and managed to stave off a hard charge near the end of regulation to claim the win. Then on Thursday, the Tigers were beaten at home by Kenyon, 19-10, after taking an early lead. Finally, on Sunday, Wittenberg rallied to defeat visiting Whittier (Calif.) 15-6. For the week, Robbins hammered home 11 goals and also had 10 assists, while Romanowski had 10 goals.


April 3, 2001 - Wittenberg picked up a pair of impressive wins last week as the Tigers romped 19-1 at Earlham on March 29 and then recorded a dramatic 7-6 double-overtime victory at Oberlin on April 1. Senior Kati Robbins (Collegeville, Pa./Methacton), a first-team all-conference selection a year ago, leads the NCAC in scoring with 11 goals and 17 assists on the season, and in recognition of her outstanding efforts, the North Coast Athletic Conference awarded her Women's Lacrosse Player of the Week honors. 

In the win over Earlham, which was scheduled as a non-league affair, Robbins scored four goals and added five assists, while sophomore Cara Romanowski (Collegeville, Pa./Perkiomen Valley) chipped in with five goals and an assist.

n the win over Oberlin, which is expected to be one of the other contenders for the NCAC title in 2001, senior Jennie Stone (Damascus, Md./Damascus) led the Tigers with three goals. The two biggest scores in the game were recorded by freshman Kate Williston (Wooster, Ohio/Wooster), who scored her second goal of the game with five seconds remaining in the first overtime, and Robbins, who netted the game-winner 30 seconds into the second overtime. 

The Tigers have a big week ahead of them as they host NCAC powers Ohio Wesleyan and Kenyon on Tuesday and Thursday respectively. Wittenberg rounds out its busiest week yet in the 2001 campaign with a non-conference home game against Whittier on Sunday. 



March 28, 2001 - The Tigers return to action this week, nearly two weeks after dismantling St. Vincent on March 16 at Edwards-Maurer Field by a final score of 18-3.

Senior Jennie Stone (Damascus, Md./Damascus) and senior Kati Robbins (Collegeville, Pa./Methacton) rank among the NCAC leaders in scoring early in the season.



March 22, 2001 - The Tigers may have lost two of their three games during Spring Break in Panama City, Fla. but the improvement was evident in the team's first game back in chilly Ohio. Wittenberg dismantled visiting St. Vincent on March 16 at Edwards-Maurer Field by a final score of 18-3. 

The Tigers got four goals from senior Jennie Stone (Damascus, Md./Damascus) in the offensive blitz, and three more tallies from sophomore Mollie Stone (Damascus, Md./Damascus).



March 13, 2001 - The Tigers opened the trip with a 9-7 loss to Rochester Institute of Technology, then lost 24-8 to Shippensburg, Pa. Senior attacker Kati Robbins (Collegeville, Pa./Methacton) had one goal and two assists for Wittenberg against Shippensburg.
