Tigers Fall In Key NCAC Game To Rival Kenyon
|
Megan Meige
|
For the first 30 minutes, the Tigers ran right with the Ladies, rallying from an early three-goal deficit to knot things up on a goal by senior Megan Meige (Columbus, Ohio/DeSales). At the time, the Tigers seized momentum in a 7-7 game, although Kenyon came up with a big score just before intermission to take an 8-7 lead into the break.
From there, the Ladies took over, scoring three quick goals out of the halftime intermission and rolled from there. Recently recognized as an NCAC Player of the Week, Wittenberg sophomore Jordan Beauchamp (Noblesville, Ind./Hamilton Southeastern) kept on her tear, adding a hat trick and provided the offensive highlight. Meige finished with a goal and two assists.
The Tigers were labelled as the No. 2 team in the NCAA Division III West Region in the first poll of the season, their first recognition in Head Coach Kati Robbins' tenure and the first regional ranking for the program overall since 1990. Wittenberg takes to the road for the rest of the regular season, starting with a visit to NCAC foe Wooster at 1 p.m. Saturday, April 25.
