SPRINGFIELD, Ohio — A solid spring sports season has reaped individual rewards for 30 Wittenberg University athletes who were selected to All-North Coast Athletic Conference (NCAC) teams over the last two weeks. Announcements for men's and women's lacrosse, men's and women's tennis, softball and baseball have come in separate releases from the NCAC office. Tigers Fall On Road At Denison![]() |
SPRINGFIELD, Ohio — The Wittenberg Tigers put up a good fight, but they were unable to keep pace with host Denison in North Coast Athletic Conference action Thursday, falling by a 14-9 count. The Tigers dropped their fifth straight game, all in NCAC action, to fall to 3-10 overall and 0-5 in the conference heading into Saturday's season finale at home against Oberlin. Tigers Lose To Ohio Wesleyan![]() |
SPRINGFIELD, Ohio — The Wittenberg Tigers dug themselves too deep a hole Saturday at home in the friendly confines of Edwards-Maurer Field, and by game's end they were on the short end of a 17-4 score against Ohio Wesleyan, the top-ranked team in the region currently. Wittenberg fell to 3-9 overall and 0-4 in the North Coast Athletic Conference Tournament. The home stretch includes a road game on Thursday against Denison and a season finale in Springfield against Oberlin on Saturday, April 29. Tiger Rally Falls Short At Wooster![]() |
SPRINGFIELD, Ohio — The Wittenberg Tigers put up the good fight, but in the end the Wooster Scots had too much offense and pulled out a 13-9 victory. SPRINGFIELD, Ohio — The Wittenberg Tigers scored enough goals to win most women's lacrosse games, but unfortunately the Kenyon Ladies scorched the nets in a 19-12 victory. Wittenberg Falls In NCAC Opener To Allegheny![]() |
SPRINGFIELD, Ohio — The Wittenberg Tigers couldn't keep the ball rolling Saturday in their North Coast Athletic Conference opener against Allegheny College, falling 14-9. The Tigers got off to a great start, rallying after a goal by Allegheny just 16 seconds into the game to score four straight goals. After an Allegheny timeout, however, the Gators woke up and thoroughly outplayed the Tigers, scoring the next 10 goals over a span of more than 30 minutes. Wittenberg, which dropped to 3-6 overall and 0-1 in the conference, scored several goals late in the game in a futile effort to catch up. Read More ... |

SPRINGFIELD, Ohio — While her days as a Wittenberg student-athlete are drawing to a close, a career in the field of athletics is just beginning for Emily Hiscar, class of 2006 of Pataskala, Ohio. She’s off to a fine start after earning a prestigious Ethnic Minority and Women’s Enhancement Postgraduate Scholarship for Careers in Athletics from the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA). Developed by the NCAA Committee on Women’s Athletics and the NCAA Minority Opportunities and Interests Committee, 26 postgraduate scholarships, split evenly between ethnic minorities and female college graduates, are awarded annually. SPRINGFIELD, Ohio — The Wittenberg Tigers put together another outstanding performance Saturday, putting the wraps on a rollercoaster ride of a non-conference schedule with a convincing 19-7 win over visiting Notre Dame College (OH). The win was Wittenberg's third in a row - all at home - following an 0-5 start to the 2006 season. NCAC Player of the Week: Melissa Jackson Named NCAC Player of the Week![]() |
CLEVELAND, Ohio — Wittenberg junior Melissa Jackson (Worthington, OH/Thomas Worthington), who has led the Tigers in scoring in six of her team's seven games to date, helped the Tigers to their first two wins of the season, after an 0-5 start. She contributed three goals in an 11-4 decision over St. Vincent. The next day, she poured in another seven goals with four assists in a 19-10 victory over Seton Hill. Tigers Explode On Offense To Down Seton Hill![]() |
SPRINGFIELD, Ohio — The Wittenberg Tigers chalked up a second home victory in as many days with a 19-10 win over Seton Hill University. In their first two home games, the Tigers scored more goals (30) than they had in their previous five games (28), all road or neutral field losses. Wittenberg is now 2-5 overall and is off until next Saturday, when the Tigers round out the non-conference portion of the 2006 schedule with a home game against Notre Dame (OH). SPRINGFIELD, Ohio — The Wittenberg Tigers have a new lease on life and it showed in their home opener Saturday. The Tigers recorded their first win of the 2006 season with a 11-4 domination of visiting St. Vincent. Wittenberg improved to 1-5 on the still-young season. The Tigers had lost their first five games by an average of eight goals per game, but they appeared rejuvenated on the Edwards-Maurer Field turf, controlling the ball well in the offensive end and coming up with key stops on defense as well. SPRINGFIELD, Ohio — The Wittenberg Tigers finally got things going at the offensive end of the field, but they couldn't keep pace with host Shenandoah, falling by an 18-12 count. SPRINGFIELD, Ohio — The Wittenberg University women’s lacrosse has undergone a coaching change effective immediately, Director of Athletics and Recreation Garnett Purnell announced. Field hockey head coach Diana Kuser has taken the reins of the team. She will be assisted for the 2006 season by Purnell and Associate Director of Athletics/Senior Woman Administrator Pam Smith. Kuser replaces Katherine Haney, who tendered her resignation. Including this year’s 0-3 start, Haney had an 8-17 record in three seasons at the helm. SPRINGFIELD, Ohio — The Wittenberg Tigers put the finishing touches on a disappointing Spring Break Trip with a 13-5 loss to Gordon. The loss drops the Tigers to 0-3 on the young season. Wittenberg picked up two goals each from freshman Lizzie Amorello and junior Melissa Jackson and a score from sophomore Amber Cupples. SPRINGFIELD, Ohio — The Wittenberg Tigers dropped their second straight game on the 2006 Spring Break Trip, falling 12-1 to Susquehanna. The Tigers were outshot 23-12, but Susquehanna was far more efficient in the offensive zone, converting 12 of those shots into goals. Wittenberg goaltender Clare Bucheit was credited with six saves. Wittenberg picked up four goals from junior Melissa Jackson and singles tallies from junior Kari Thomas, freshman Lizzie Amorello and sophomore Amber Cupples.
