Wittenberg JV Defeats Cedarville
Sept. 8, 2005
CEDARVILLE, Ohio - The Wittenberg women's soccer junior varsity team opened the 2005 season with a 1-0 win at Cedarville. The Tigers won it on a goal by freshman Katie McIlvain and a solid defensive effort in support of freshman goaltender Jordan Bamberger.
The Tigers went into action with just the 11 that took the field as there was a minor mishap to the team's only substitute as they were readying to leave the Wittenberg clubhouse. Was this to be an ominous foreshadowing of things to come or just another challenge to overcome for this young group of reservists? It was the latter that prevailed as the Tigers dominated action and found themselves confidently executing the system that they had been groomed to play in the weeks leading up to this game.
"This was a great effort and it was exactly how we wanted to start our reserve season. The team played hard for 90 minutes and had to solve a lot of problems in order for us to get this win. Speaking on behalf of the coaches, 'we are proud of their efforts and what we accomplished today'," said Head Coach Norm Riker.
