Wittenberg Wins Second Straight At Illinois Wesleyan, This Time Over Elmhurst
Sept. 3, 2005

BLOOMINGTON, Ill. - The Wittenberg Tigers made sure that the long bus ride home from Illinois that much more enjoyable on Saturday, capturing a 1-0 win over Elmhurst in the second day of the Illinois Wesleyan Invitational. The one-goal win came a day after the Tigers opened this season of high hopes with a 2-1 victory over the host team.

The formula for success in 2005 appears to be the same as in 2004, when the Tigers were the surprise of the North Coast Athletic Conference with an 11-4-5 overall record. Wittenberg's defense made a goal by sophomore Amanda Farrell in the third minute of the game stand up, turning away any and all challenges from Elmhurst. Sophomore goalkeeper Meghan O'Rourke was forced to make just two saves in the entire game.

Wittenberg outshot Elmhurst 7-2 in the game. The Tigers are now off for a week before another back-to-back schedule on Saturday and Sunday. Rose-Hulman is on the schedule for Saturday, Sept. 10, and DePauw pays the Tigers a visit on Sunday, Sept. 11, as Wittenberg plays its first games on the new home turf in Edwards-Maurer Field.
