On a cold, rainy night, Denison's stingy defense allowed just two shots and kept the Pioneers on their heels all night. Denison built an early lead by scoring twice within the first 30 minutes of the game and never looked back.
At the 16:05 mark, senior Tammy Hoch scored off a deflection from a Transylvania defender to put the Big Red up 1-0. Hoch's shot from 20 yards out landed in the lower left corner of the goal to build the early lead. Six minutes later, Hoch scored her second goal of the game to give the Big Red an insurmountable 2-0 lead. Denison went into the half with a 2-0 lead and never looked back.
Denison carried that momentum into the second half, holding the Pioneers to only one shot in each half. The Big Red played most of the second half on Transylvania's end of the field, allowing the Pioneers' minimal scoring opportunities.
Statistically speaking, the Big Red were in control of the game from beginning to end. Denison took 13 shots, nine on goal, compared to two shots, one on goal, taken by the Pioneers.
Transylvania, champions of the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference, ended its season with a record of 16-2. Denison, now 15-4-1, will face the winner of tonight's second first-round game at Wittenberg between No. 23 ranked Otterbein, regular season champion of the Ohio Athletic Conference, and the host Tigers, now ranked No.22.
