Wittenberg Tops Urbana 2-1
Sept. 15, 2006

URBANA, Ohio - The Wittenberg Tigers met the Urbana Blue Knights for the second time this season in a "Friday Night Lights" reserve match between the crosstown rivals. It seemed as if deja vu took over in this close match as exactly two weeks earlier the Tigers played down players and still came away with a one-goal win.

As the game took off it was a head to head match as Urbana looked for revenge and Wittenberg fought for an undefeated reserve season. Play was close as the offense-laden Tigers played with only 10 players to Urbana's 11. It wasn't until about midway through the first half that freshman Karen Girard slotted the off-and-running Kristy Parker, who put the ball away for the first score on the board. The rest of the half was well fought, but the Knights wouldn't take "no" for an answer and tied up the game with minutes left to play in the first half.

At the start of the second half, the Tigers found a second wind and created several scoring opportunities, but they couldn't finish the play. As the law of average defines, one of the multiple opportunities is bound to go in, and junior Tara Osborne sealed the game with a 25-yard shot, passed from Kyra Macke, to put the Tigers up 2-1. Being up a goal and down a man, it was time for the Tigers to play a defensive game, in which the back line kept their teammates organized and did not allow another goal the rest of the half ending the match in a 2-1 victory.

Wittenberg will host Cedarville University on Monday October 15 at 4:00 p.m. on the grass at Bill Edwards field.
