SPRINGFIELD, Ohio - It was a long afternoon for the Wittenberg women's soccer team. After two full periods and two overtimes, the Tigers were out of breath and added a third column to their record, tieing the Wooster Fighting Scots in a defensive struggle.

It was a battle of behemoths when the Scots came to Tiger town, as the two defenses continually offset each other, keeping the ball at midfield for most of the game. When either team lashed out, their shots sailed wide or high as a result of skilled defensive recovery, upsetting the offensive balance of the game.

Wittenberg has been known for its defense this season, and it came through more than ever on Saturday. Head Coach Norm Riker was especially pleased with the play of freshman defender Margaret Amorello (Sutton, Mass./Worcester Academy), who battled her opponents every second of the game. Also coming through with big defensive plays were sophomore Rachael Radel (Columbus, Ohio/Grandview) and freshman Kelly Foley (Dublin, Ohio/Scioto).

The tie moves both teams to nonetheless impressive 8-2-1 records, and both now own a 0-0-1 conference tally.

The Tigers travel to Indiana Wesleyan University on Wednesday, Oct. 3, for a game time of 7 p.m., where they will play their last regular season non-conference game of the year.
