Wittenberg Falls 2-1 To Cincinnati State In Reserve Team Opener

Kristy Parker
SPRINGFIELD, Ohio - The Wittenberg Reserve opened its 2008 season on Sunday, Aug. 31, against Cincinnati State in the first game of a doubleheader for the Tiger's women's soccer program. Conditions made playing tough as both teams struggled in the August mid-day temperatures that reached into the 90s. However, it was the visitors that found relief from the heat as they coolly flicked a header passed the on-rushing Wittenberg keeper. The goal was created as Cincinnati State regained possession from a cleared corner and served the ball back into box, where it headed first time into the net.

Cincinnati State would strike again midway through the second half on a 30-yard shot that found the upper 90. Despite being down 2-0 the Tigers fought back and gave themselves a chance to level when senior reserve captain Kristy Parker calmly slotted home a breakaway in the 80th minute. The Tigers put together two more chances in the late minutes, but it was not to be, as the Cincinnati State keeper came off her line to make two great plays to end the Wittenberg attack.

Although a disappointing start to the young season the Wittenberg Reserve has history on its side. Each of the six seasons since the team was formed in 2003 have been winning ones. In addition, this is the most extensive schedule to date, and the Tigers will look to rebound quickly. Next up Ohio State Club with the kickoff slated for 7 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 3.
