Wittenberg Rallies For Win At Wooster

Megan Utter
WOOSTER, Ohio - Looking to avoid falling to 0-2 in conference play, the Tiger women broke a 2-2 tie in the 77th minute, then held on to beat Wooster on the road by a 3-2 final. It was a pair of freshmen who provided the heroics for the Tigers as Megan Utter (Grand Rapids, Mich./East Grand Rapids) punched in a Sheryl Chambers (Victorville, Calif./St. Joan of Arc) cross to give the Tigers the game winner.

After falling behind early, the Tigers looked like they would be shutout of the first 45 minutes of play. However, right before the intermission, the Tigers won a penalty kick, and Suzanne Medwid (Columbus, Ohio/Upper Arlington) converted to level the score at 1-1.

The Tigers parlayed the change in momentum with a go-ahead goal seven minutes after the break, with junior Emily Murray (Petoskey, Mich./Petoskey) collecting a rebound in front of the net and finishing the job. The Scots would rally and tie the match in the 70th minute, setting up Utter's game winner. It was Utter's first goal in her collegiate career.

The Tigers were outshot 10-8 and outcornered 6-4, but did see Jordan Bamberger (Solon, Ohio/Solon) come up with four saves to help preserve the first conference victory in 2008. Wittenberg moves to 6-2-4 and 1-1-0 in the conference.

Up ahead, the Hiram Terriers will make a visit to Edwards-Maurer Field on Homecoming Weekend, with opening kickoff set for 5 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 11.
