Wittenberg dominates regionally ranked Albion




Springfield, Ohio--Freshman forward Geri Woessner (Dayton, Ohio/Oakwood) tied a Wittenberg record by scoring four goals as she led Wittenberg over Albion 6-1. Albion entered the match ranked 10th in the Great Lakes Region.

Wittenberg freshman forward Jill Rekers (Springboro, Ohio/Springboro) got the Tigers on the board early in the first half in the 3rd minuted when she won a ball from a Briton defender and chipped Albion keeper Amanda Williams. The Tigers struck again in the 31st minute when Woessner scored on an unassisted goal to put Wittenberg ahead 2-0 going into halftime.

Albion responded early in the 2nd half when Stacy Supaniah won a ball in the Wittenberg penalty area and tucked it past freshman goalkeeper Jenny Miller (Cincinnati, Ohio/Mother of Mercy).

The Tigers regained the two-goal advantage quickly as Woessner scored off an assist from freshman forward Melissa Jordan (Cincinnati, Ohio/Finneytown). Just three minutes later, the Tigers scored again when senior midfielder Natalie Estep (Fairborn, Ohio/Fairborn) sent a through ball for freshman midfielder Lesley Runyan (Ashland, Ohio/Ashland).

Woessner struck twice more in the match from assists by Rachel Helsinger (Cincinnati, Ohio/Monroe, Ohio/Monroe-Lemon) and Kate Williston (Wooster, Ohio/Wooster).

Wittenberg outshot Albion 19-9 in the contest. Wittenberg goalkeepers Jenny Miller (Cincinnati, Ohio/Mother of Mercy) and Jen Biehl (Swanton, Ohio/Swanton) combined to make 4 saves in goal for the Tigers.
