Meadville, Pa. -- Hitting the road for the first time in the always tough North Coast Athletic Conference, the young Wittenberg Tigers dropped a hard-fought 4-2 decision to host Allegheny. The Gators entered the match ranked No. 4 in the Great Lakes Region, and Wittenberg entered the match 10th in the Great Lakes Region.
Allegheny built an insurmountable three-goal lead in the first 25 minutes of the match. The Tigers got back a little closer in the 27th minute of the match when senior midfielder Natalie Estep (Fairborn, Ohio/Fairborn) scored on a penalty kick to make the score 3-1.
The Tigers struck again early in the second half when freshman forward Geri Woessner (Dayton, Ohio/Oakwood) assisted on freshman forward Jill Rekers (Springboro, Ohio/Springboro) ninth goal of the season.
Allegheny finally put the game out of reach with a goal in the 82nd minute of the match, accounting for the final margin of victory. Each team had 17 shots in the contest. Wittenberg goalkeeper Jenny Miller (Cincinnati, Ohio/Mother of Mercy) recorded 12 saves in goal for the Tigers.
