Wittenberg beats regionally ranked Capital 2-0 for 3rd straight home win

Springfield, Ohio -- The Wittenberg women's soccer team won its 3rd straight home match Monday, beating Capital, which came into the match ranked 7th in the Great Lakes Region, by a 2-0 count.

The first half was scoreless, but Witt struck first in the 49th minute when senior midfielder Natalie Estep (Fairborn, Ohio/Fairborn) scored from a freshman forward Geri Woessner (Dayton, Ohio/Oakwood) throw in.

Witt scored again halfway through the second half when freshman forward Kate Williston (Wooster, Ohio/Wooster) scored a great goal by sliding and bending the ball past Capital goalkeeper Jenny Brecht on a breakaway. The goal was assisted by freshman midfielder Lesley Runyan (Ashland, Ohio/Ashland).

Tiger freshman goalkeeper Jenny Miller (Cincinnati, Ohio/Mother of Mercy) made three saves and recorded her third shutout of the season.

Wittenberg has scored 30 goals this season which ties the total amount in the 1999 season after 19 matches. For the second week in a row, the Tigers have received votes in the Great Lakes Regional Rankings. They have a record of 5-1, and 1-0 in the NCAC.
