Tiger Reserves Open Season With 1-0 Loss To Ohio State Club

Sarah Braden
SPRINGFIELD, Ohio - The Wittenberg women's soccer reserve team fought hard for a full 90 minutes against the Ohio State Women's Soccer Club Team. With only 11 players available, the Tigers communicated well, were organized, and played with intensity before falling 1-0.

The Tigers created numerous chances on goal, but they could not find the back of the net. Nevertheless, their hard work on and off the ball created many issues for the Ohio State Club Team's defense. The offense was led by senior Sara Pirozzi, freshman Gracie Winzeler and sophomore Meredith Kirby with freshman Leslie Oliver in the attacking midfield positions.

The Tiger defense had to deal with fast OSU forwards at the other end. Unfortunately, in the 31st minute Ohio State capitalized on a corner kick. The Wittenberg defense was led by senior reserve captain Sarah Braden and juniors Erin McLeish and Kelsey Rosinski.

They were helped by freshman defender Mandi Clemons and freshman goalkeeper Hannah Hoffman. Sophomore Lauren McMahon and sophomore Kristi Burkitt were busy on both sides of the ball as the Wittenberg midfield kept Ohio State scoreless for the rest of the game, and also created several chances to equalize.

After the promising result in the opener, the reserves squad will return to action at Cedarville on Tuesday, Sept. 8.
