Hiram, Ohio -- Wittenberg freshman forward Geri Woessner (Dayton, Ohio/Oakwood) turned her second hat trick of the 2000 season - with all three goals coming in the second half - to propel the Tigers to perhaps their most important victory. In improving to 10-6 overall and 4-4 in the NCAC, Wittenberg won a pair of tiebreakers to earn the right to play top-seeded Allegheny in Meadville, Pa. on Wednesday (10/25) at 3 p.m. in the first round of the NCAC tournament.
After a scoreless first half, the Tigers stepped up in the second 45 minutes as senior midfielder Natalie Estep (Fairborn, Ohio/Fairborn) and freshman forward Jill Rekers (Springboro, Ohio/Springboro) each recorded their 10th goals of the season. Estep also had an assist in the match, giving her 26 total points for the season.
Junior midfielder Emily Gersbach (Hamilton, Ohio/Badin) assisted on a goal for the seventh time this season, and freshman midfielder Erin Lane (Lucas, Ohio/Mansfield St. Peter's) rounded out the scoring with Woessner's hat trick, which tied a Wittenberg record - previously held by Karen Larson in 1993 - for most goals in a season with 18.
