SPRINGFIELD,OH-Ohio Wesleyan, ranked second in the nation and first in the Great Lakes Region, nipped Wittenberg in this NCAC match as they scored twice in the last two minutes of the game.
After a scoreless first half, Wittenberg went ahead 1-0 when it was awarded a free kick just outside the box after senior forward Allison Shaffer was fouled from behind. Freshman Sara Tawil struck the ball far post and over Bishop goalie Alison Mumaw's head to put the Tigers ahead with 35 minutes to play.
The Bishops struck back nine minutes later when Becky Witte struck a ball from 25 yards out in the center of the midfield. The ball hit the crossbar, the Wittenberg goalie Cary Brown and then proceded to trickle into the goal to tie the game 1-1.
Ohio Wesleyan would strike again three minutes later when Lindsey Bland headed in a Bishop corner kick to put the Bishops up 2-1 with under 15 minutes remaining.
Just one minute later, Wittenberg struck back when sophomore forward Emily Gersbach layed a ball back for senior midfielder Kim Hepner. Hepner's strike came from 35 yards away from goal as it floated over the Mumaw's head to tie the match at 2-2.
In the 88th minute, Ohio Wesleyan was quick in transition when the ball was played endline and then put across the face for an oncoming Katy Sturtz who tucked the ball past Wittenberg goalie Cary Brown. The goal gave the Bishops a 3-2 lead with under two minutes to play.
The Bishops would strike one final time with just 51 seconds remaining to play. Katy Sturtz broke free and went endline, serving the ball across the face of the goal and to Bre Cady who then touched the ball in the goal. Ohio Wesleyan would finish the game with a 4-2 lead.
Wittenberg goalkeeper Cary Brown had seven saves for the Tigers.
