CLEVELAND, Ohio — Wittenberg junior goalkeeper Meghan O'Rourke (Columbus, OH/Worthington Kilbourne) turned away six Denison shots, including a pair from close range in the second half, to lead the Tigers to their first NCAC Tournament championship. By registering a pair of shutouts in the tourney, she broke the school record for career shutouts with 31, topping the total of 30.5 that Sarah Newlin, the 1995 National Player of the Year, achieved in the Red & White. SPRINGFIELD, Ohio — On a cold senior night, on which the Wittenberg Tigers' lone senior Jamie McIntyre (Columbus, Ohio/Grandview) was recognized before the game, the Tigers knew they had a tough challenge ahead of them against perennial powerhouse Ohio Wesleyan. In the 21-year history of Wittenberg women's soccer, the Tigers had beaten OWU just once - in addition to two ties. CLEVELAND, Ohio — Denison University is the preseason favorite in balloting by North Coast Athletic Conference women's soccer coaches conducted via email. The Big Red, who won their sixth NCAC title and advanced to the NCAA quarterfinals last fall, earned seven of nine first-place votes from league coaches to compile 79 points, edging second-place Ohio Wesleyan (71) by eight points. The Battling Bishops, winners of the 2005 NCAC Tournament, claimed the other two first-place votes cast. Wittenberg (59) was third, followed by Kenyon (49) and Wooster (49) in a tie for fourth.
