Tigers Fall To Calvin In Second Round Of NCAA Division III Tournament
GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. — For the second straight year, the end of the road for the Wittenberg Tigers came on the home field of the Calvin Crusaders. Unlike last year's first round 4-0 stunner against the University of Chicago, however, the Tigers returned home with at least a moral victory after reaching the second round and playing the host Crusaders to a near standoff in a 1-0 loss. Tigers Top Ohio Northern In NCAA Division III Tournament First Round
GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. — Now that the Wittenberg Tigers are in the NCAA Division III Tournament, it appears that the gloves - or whatever was muffling the offense - have come off. Player of the Week: Melissa Gartner Earns NCAC Award
CLEVELAND, Ohio — Wittenberg freshman goalkeeper Melissa Gartner (Cincinnati, OH/St. Ursula) made eight saves and pitched a shutout to help the Tigers to their fourth straight NCAC tournament championship. She made five saves in a 1-0 semifinal victory against Allegheny and had three saves in the championship against Earlham, including a late acrobatic stop to preserve the Tiger lead. Wittenberg took the championship, 2-1. This season, Gartner has posted a 0.36 GAA and an .863 save percentage with 12 shutouts and only seven goals allowed. Read More ...
