Wittenberg Dominates NCAC Rivals Earlham, Wooster

Jackie Stevens
SPRINGFIELD, Ohio - The Wittenberg women's tennis team convincingly defeated two visiting North Coast Athletic Conference (NCAC) opponents, beating Earlham and Wooster by scores of 8-1 in each match. The wins move the Tigers to 12-4 on the season, and 1-1 in the NCAC West Division (Wooster is in the East Division).

Their current win percentage of .750 is the best at Wittenberg since 1985. As their season winds down, the Tigers have the chance to set a lot of high standards for the program, which finished 10-7 last year.

Senior Allison Earhart (Muncie, Ind./Yorktown) finished 2-0 on the day in singles competition, as did freshman Alex Cummins(New Lebanon, Ohio/Dixie), junior Emily Nash (Hilliard, Ohio/Davidson) and freshman Jackie Stevens (Columbus, Ohio/Upper Arlington). Head Coach Justin Stuckey got creative when assigning his double partners, mixing up some new duos. The pair of Earhart and freshman Maggie Stewart (Bay Village, Ohio/Magnificat) fell short of a victory against Earlham, but they bounced back later in the day for a victory at No. 1 doubles against Wooster.

The wins should send a message to Ohio Wesleyan, which takes the court against the Tigers on Tuesday, April 21 at 4:30 p.m., a make-up date from last week's rain cancellation. The Tigers will travel to Kenyon next weekend for the NCAC Tournament, where they hope to make another big statement and possibly make a return to the top three in the final standings.
