Tigers Open Spring Season With Narrow Loss At
NCAA Division I Wright State

Alexandra Cummins

The loss was deceiving because of the match's format, with a single doubles point awarded after the Raiders won two of the three matches, and a hard-fought No. 1 singles decision that went against the Tigers. As a result, Wittenberg fell to 1-3 on the season, heading into what the Tigers hope is their final indoor match of the 2009 spring season Thursday against NCAA Division II Findlay.
Wittenberg's points were earned at the No. 5 and No. 6 singles positions by freshmen Alexandra Cummins (New Lebanon, Ohio/Dixie) and Jackie Stevens (Columbus, Ohio/Watterson) respectively. Cummins was pushed to a decisive 10-point tiebreaker after splitting the first two sets, while Stevens was a 7-5, 6-2 victor. At the aforementioned No. 1 singles spot, senior Allison Earhart (Muncie, Ind./Yorktown) won a second-set tiebreaker to push the match to the deciding 10-point tiebreaker, which she lost 10-6.
Earhart did not leave Dayton empty-handed, however, as she teamed with freshman Maggie Stewart (Bay Village, Ohio/Magnificat) at No. 3 doubles for an 8-2 win.
