Tigers Round Out Fall Season With Split At St. Joseph's

Maggie Stewart
RENSSELAER, Ind. - The Wittenberg Tigers started strong but were unable to finish the day off, settling for a split with Calumet and host St. Joseph's (Ind.).

The 9-0 win over Calumet and the 5-4 loss to St. Joseph's left Wittenberg with a 2-3 overall record for the fall season. The Tigers will return to action in February to start the spring season.

Against Calumet, the Tigers took all three doubles matches by comfortable margins before sweeping the singles without dropping a set. Eight different players saw action for Wittenberg, including freshmen Kristin Wright (Akron, Ohio/Walsh Jesuit) and Lisa Berman (Powell, Ohio/Olentangy Liberty) at the No. 5 and 6 singles positions.

Against St. Joseph's, the Tigers got off a solid start, taking two of three doubles courts. Only sophomores Alexandra Cummins (New Lebanon, Ohio/Dixie) and Jackie Stevens (Columbus, Ohio/Watterson) managed singles wins, however, as they were victors at No. 4 and No. 5, respectively. Both were also doubles winners, as Stevens teamed with junior Jayne Miely (Columbus, Ohio/Upper Arlington) at No. 2 and Cummins paired with sophomore Maggie Stewart (Bay Village, Ohio/Magnificat) at No. 3.
