2000 Wittenberg Women's Tennis Press ReleasesMay 2, 2000-- (11-13, 3-5 NCAC)-- The Tigers ended their 2000 season at the NCAC Tournament in Allegheny last weekend where they finished seventh in the conference. Wittenberg opened the tournament with a 7-2 loss to Oberlin and then fell 5-4 to Wooster before finishing in seventh place over Earlham 7-2. Freshman Erin Beach (Dayton, Ohio/Butler) finished the season with a team-best 16-2 overall mark and a perfect 8-0 performance in conference match-ups. Freshman Shannon Oliphant (Columbus, Ohio/Davidson) recorded an 11-8 overall mark in her first collegiate season. Oliphant and Beach teamed up at first doubles for the Tigers and finished the 2000 season with a 14-8 overall mark. April 25, 2000-- (9-11, 3-5 NCAC)-- In matches last week, Wittenberg dropped a 6-3 decision to conference rival Denison early in the week but then posted a 5-4 victory over Case Reserve on Saturday. Freshman Erin Beach (Dayton, Ohio/Butler) is the lone Tiger ranked in conference standings. With an 13-1 overall mark and a perfect 8-0 mark in the conference, she is first at second singles. The Tigers host Cedarville on Tuesday in their final regular season contest and then travel to Allegheny for the NCAC Tournament on Friday and Saturday. April 18, 2000-- (8-10, 3-4 NCAC)-- Wittenberg faced two conference opponents in matches last week and posted a 8-1 decision over Earlham but fell to Oberlin 7-2. Freshman Erin Beach (Dayton, Ohio/Butler) is the lone Tiger ranked in conference standings. With an 11-1 overall mark and a perfect 7-0 mark in the conference, she is first at second singles. April 11, 2000-- (7-9, 2-3 NCAC)-- Wittenberg finished a tough week of action when it faced two top conference opponents last week. The Tigers fell to both Allegheny and Ohio Wesleyan 8-1 last week. Freshman Erin Beach (Dayton, Ohio/Butler) was the lone Tiger to record victories in both matches and push her overall record to an impressive 9-1 and an unblemished conference record of 5-0. The Tigers see competition at the end of the week when conference rivals Earlham and Oberlin visit on Saturday. April 4, 2000-- (7-7, 2-1 NCAC)-- The Tigers opened the week posting a 7-2 victory over conference opponent Wooster but then fell to conference champions Kenyon 8-1 on Saturday. Freshman Erin Beach (Dayton, Ohio/Butler) has made an immediate contribution for the Tigers and is ranked first in the conference at second singles with a 7-1 overall mark and 3-0 conference record. At second doubles for the Tigers, sophomore Sarah Bonar (Lancaster, Ohio/Lancaster) and freshman Connie Creitz (Westerville, Ohio/DeSales) are third in the conference with a 3-3 overall mark and a 2-1 NCAC record. Wittenberg is home this week with a full schedule when Otterbein comes to town on Thursday and conference rival Allegheny and Transylvania visit on Saturday. March 27, 2000-- (6-6, 1-0 NCAC)-- As the Tigers head into their conference match-ups with a 5-6 overall record, continued improvement is the main goal. Wittenberg finished its spring trip with a successful 3-2 mark, but then traveled to the DePauw tournament where they opened with a win to Kalamazoo but fell to Washington and DePauw. The Tigers are back on the winning track after posting a 9-0 shutout in their first conference match of the season against Hiram. Two newcomers have made impressionable marks in the first part of the spring season in both singles and doubles. Freshmen Shannon Oliphant (Columbus, Ohio/Hilliard Davidson) and Erin Beach (Dayton, Ohio/Butler) have recorded a 6-4 overall mark and a 1-0 mark in the league at the first doubles position. Oliphant has a 4-3 mark in first singles and Beach has an impressive 5-1 mark at second doubles. Wittenberg hosts conference action when Wooster visits on Friday and then the Tigers travel to Kenyon for a tough match-up with the defending champions on Saturday. Women's Tennis Home Page
