Wittenberg Celebrates Class of 2012 With 167th Commencement Exercises
Encouraged to "make the world a better place to live," members of Wittenberg University's Class of 2012 celebrated their collegiate experience in front of a standing-room-only crowd on a picture-perfect afternoon in idyllic Commencement Hollow.

Wittenberg University Names Dr. Laurie M. Joyner as 14th President
The Wittenberg University Board of Directors has unanimously elected Dr. Laurie M. Joyner as the university's 14th president effective July 1. Dr. Joyner is currently vice president for planning and dean of the college at Rollins College in Winter Park, Florida. She will become the first female president of the 167-year-old national liberal arts university in Ohio.

Wittenberg Choir Embarks On Ground-Breaking European Tour
Through its long and illustrious history, the Wittenberg Choir has traveled extensively, "passing the light" of a small Midwestern liberal arts university to audiences throughout the world. In 2012, the choir heads to Europe to mark the 50th anniversary of the Wittenberg Choir's first European tour.

Wittenberg Senior Recognized For Leadership In Community Service
Alexandra Bickel, class of 2012 from Columbus, Ind., was one of just four students in the 47 Ohio colleges and universities of Ohio Campus Compact to receive a prestigious Charles J. Ping Legacy award. Bickel will receive a $500 award to be given to the community organization of her choice.

Wittenberg Receives Minigrant From State Library of Ohio
Wittenberg University's Thomas Library recently received one of 17 Library Services and Technology Act minigrants awarded by the State Library of Ohio. The minigrants, including $15,672 in federal funding and a $5,224 local match for a total project amount of $20,896, were made possible by a grant from the Federal Institute of Museum and Library Services.

Wittenberg Students Team With 4 Paws for Ability To Train Service Dogs
Since 2009, Wittenberg students have been playing a critical role in preparing dogs for service to others. Through the Xenia, Ohio-based organization 4 Paws for Ability, students participate in the program as handler-trainers, guiding nearly 40 dogs to the point where they become invaluable service animals to children with disabilities.

Susan Hirt Hagen '57 Honored for Service Beyond Self
Calling upon those present to contribute their time, talent and treasure to making their own communities the best they can be for all individuals, Susan Hirt Hagen '57 joined a new community of leaders, April 18, as the latest inductee into the Ohio Foundation of Independent Colleges' Hall of Excellence.

Wittenberg Hosts Wide Range Of Summer Youth Sports Camps in 2012
Summer will be as busy as always around the Wittenberg University athletics complex in 2012 as nine different Wittenberg programs — men's basketball, women's basketball, field hockey, football, men's soccer, women's soccer, softball, tennis and volleyball — are sponsoring youth camps this year.

Student-Athlete Advisory Committee Hosts Seventh Annual Tiger Awards
The seventh annual Tiger Awards, recognizing excellence in athletic and academic performance by Wittenberg University student-athletes during the 2011-12 school year, were handed out during a banquet on April 29.

Wittenberg Unveils Tiger GAME Plan Initiative
The football program with the most wins in NCAA Division III history keeps breaking new ground. For the third straight year, a Tiger player earned Most Valuable Player honors at the annual Ohio Army National Guard Senior Bowl after Ben Zoeller, class of 2012 from Louisville, Ky., earned the offensive award at the 2012 game.

Men's Lacrosse Standout Takes His Game Abroad
Over the last four years, Will Emery, class of 2012 from Columbus, Ohio, has appeared in nearly 50 games for the Wittenberg men's lacrosse team. While memories of winning the first two NCAC championships in program history will always be fresh in his mind, an opportunity to represent his university in Europe also stands out.

Student, Alumna Featured At Un Mundo Café First-Ever Art Show
Un Mundo Café, a ministry of the Children’s Rescue Center (CRC), presents its first-ever art gallery exhibition featuring the photography of Wittenberg student Jessica Konczak, class of 2012 from Mansfield, Ohio, and alumna Kayla Snider, class of 2011. The show opened at 7 p.m. Friday, April 27, and will run for two months.
