A true musician-pianist, Havana born Juana Zayas is recognized worldwide as one of the greatest living interpreters of the music of Chopin. After graduating from the Peyrellade Conservatory, she attended the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique de Paris. Donald Manildi of the International Piano Quarterly has declared her recording of the complete Chopin Etudes the best of the 20th century. Her program at Wittenberg will include the "Sonata in A Major," K. 331 (alla turca) by W. A. Mozart; "Visions fugitives" by Sergei Prokofiev; "Two Legends" by Franz Liszt; "Grande Valse Brillante," Op. 34, no. 1, "Barcarolle," Op. 60, "Berceuse," Op. 57, and "Ballade in g minor," op. 23 by Frédéric Chopin.

Rita Dove, poet

One of this country's most beloved poets, Rita Dove was Poet Laureate of the United States and Consultant to the Library of Congress from 1993-1995. Among the numerous literary and academic honors she has received is the 1987 Pulitzer Prize in Poetry. Born and raised in Ohio, Ms. Dove is now the Commonwealth Professor of English at the University of Virginia in Charlottesville, where she lives with her husband, the writer Fred Viebahn. They have a grown daughter, Aviva Dove-Viebahn.
