I am delighted to share with you the schedule for
the 2007-2008 Wittenberg Series. The quality
and variety of the lecturers, artists and chapel
events included in this year’s Series continue
to serve as an important expression of the liberal
arts mission of Wittenberg University. We are
proud to continue this tradition not only for the
enrichment the Series provides the campus, but
also for our neighbors and friends throughout the
larger community in which we live and work.
As Wittenberg enters its 163rd year, I hope you will take time from your busy schedules and join us in listening to, reflecting upon and enjoying the Series’ programs. With its lecturers – Poet Laureate Billy Collins, ELCA Presiding Bishop Mark Hanson and marine biologist Marcia McNutt; with its internationally renowned artists – the Beaux Arts Trio and the Dayton Contemporary Dance Company; and with its chapel events – Lessons and Carols for Advent and Christmas and the Sauer Symposium featuring The Rev. Dr. Mark Swanson who will present “A Lutheran View of Islam” – the Wittenberg Series offers much for our minds, hearts and spirits.
I want to express our ongoing gratitude for the
special endowments, cosponsors and anonymous
donors who support the Series and allow us
to offer all of these events free of charge to
students, alumni, parents, faculty, staff and the
public. Simply stated, their support makes the
Series possible.
As you read this schedule for the 2007-2008 Wittenberg Series, I challenge you to not put it down until you have added at least one date to your calendar. And please, bring a neighbor, friend, or family member with you and join us in fulfilling Wittenberg’s mission, “Having Light We Pass It On To Others.”
