Professor and Chair of Philosophy, specializes in ethics and moral psychology, and serves on the editorial board of the Journal of Moral Education. Reed presents his research at the annual conference of the Association for Moral Education and other professional meetings. His scholarly research focuses on Lawrence Kohlberg (1927-1987), a psychologist and philosopher of moral development.  The University of Notre Dame Press published his Following Kohlberg: Liberalism and the Practice of Democratic Community (1997, available through amazon.com & barnesandnoble.com). During the 1996-97 academic year, Reed was a Fellow of the National EndowmentReed with WittSem class, New Student Days, August 2004 for the Humanities, when he began biographical research on Kohlberg. Reed is currently working on a book titled Kohlberg's Promise: The Project for a Scientific Moral Philosophy. He received his B.A. degree from Hendrix College and the Ph.D. from Vanderbilt University. Reed came to Wittenberg in 1989.  He is a member of the Board of Education of Springfield City Schools, having served during 2006 as Board President, and he facilitates the work of TASK (Take A Stand for Kids), a Clark County grassroots organization working for school funding reform in Ohio.
