MU BETA (βμβ)
MISSION STATEMENT
Beta Mu Beta, Wittenberg’s Biochemistry/Molecular Biology Society, will enhance the Wittenberg community of Biochemistry/Molecular Biology students while participating in events that increase the awareness on campus, providing information about the availability of career opportunities and ongoing research ventures known, and promoting the understanding of Biochemical controversies relevant to those in the field as well as other disciplines. This is achieved by hosting knowledgeable speakers, social community-building events, charitable endeavors, and informational meetings addressing major ethical issues.
CONSTITUTION
Article I: Name
The name of this organization shall be the Beta Mu Beta (βμβ).
Article II: Purpose
The Biochemistry/Molecular Biology Society enhances the Wittenberg community of Biochemistry/Molecular Biology students while participating in events that increase the awareness on campus, providing information about the availability of career opportunities and ongoing research ventures known, and promoting the understanding of Biochemical controversies relevant to those in the field as well as other disciplines.
Article III: Membership will be available to all members of the Wittenberg Community.
Article IV: Officers and Advisor
Section 1: The advisor of Beta Mu Beta will be Dr. Margaret Goodman. Upon her resignation, a new advisor may be decided upon by a majority vote of all members present. There will be three officers: President, Vice President and Secretary/Treasurer.
Section 2: The officers’ responsibilities are as follows. The roles of these positions may be changed upon a majority vote of all members present.
President
a. preside over all meetings
b. act as the official Beta Mu Beta representative, when necessary
c. oversee other member’s duties, when necessary
d. keep records and pass on key information to the following president, at the end of his/her term
Vice President
a. perform the duties of the president in his/her absence
b. establish and maintain public relations with student services and organizations
c. monitor and oversee club publicity
d. keep records and pass on key information to the following vice president, at the end of his/her term
Secretary/Treasurer
a. record minutes at all of the meetings
b. keep club members informed of all future meetings and activities
c. carry out employment of finances
d. present next year’s budget to Student Senate
e. keep records and pass on key information to the following secretary/treasurer, at the end of his/her term
Section 3: All officers will be elected during the spring semester of the year, annually.
Section 4: Officers will be elected with a majority vote of all members present. Those wishing to run for an official position must be members for a minimum of one semester. If the president resigns, the vice president will fill the position and a new vice president will be elected by a majority vote of members present. If the vice president or secretary/treasurer resign, the position will be filled by a majority vote of all members present.
Article V: Meetings will be called by the president or advisor when necessary. All meetings shall be announced to all members by email and to the campus by flyers.
Article VI: Committees will be formed and suspended when needed.
Article VII: All amendments to this constitution shall be made by two thirds favorable vote of those present at any meeting called by the president or advisor, or by written consent of one half of the total membership.
