1. What is anime?
Japanese animation, which ranges from little kids' shows ("Pokémon") to stuff intented for adult audiances ("Twisted Tales of Tokyo").

2. What kinds of anime are there?
Generally, what we watch will fall into either Shoujo or Shounen. Shoujo, or "girls' style", typically features cute young girls, pretty and valiant men, and lots of sparkles. Shounen, or "boys' style", has more slapstick humor, more action, less romance, and snot when people cry.

3. Do I have to have seen anime to come to club?
Of course not! There's no better time to join then now.

4. What do I need to bring to anime club?
You may bring your anime collection just so we know how much stuff we have, you may bring food, or even your pet cat, but basically just bring yourself.

5. Where can I get anime?
The two best sites I've found devoted strictly to anime are Discount Anime and Discount Anime DVD. The prices on anime at Suncoast and FYE are exhorbitant compared to these. If that fails, there's always eBay, and for things that haven't been released in America yet, fansubbing. This is where fans in Japan record the visual and audio and then subtitle it themselves into English for distribution. This unfortunately becomes illegal once the DVD's are available in the US, but much of what we watch at club is only available this way.

6. What are the rules of anime club?
Rules? What are they?

7. There are some Japanese words you guys use that I don't know. Can you translate them?
Sure!
Otaku: anime enthusiast. Literally, an anime nerd. (negative connotation in Japan)
Souka/Soudesuka: I see, I understand, I get it.
Kawaii: how cute!!
Kowai: how terrifying!! (not to be confused with Kawaii)
Jaa ne: later. Kinda like goodbye.
Baka: idiot
Yatta: hooray! I did it! We won! Woohoo!
Yoshi: good, alright
Gomen: sorry
Arigato/Domo/Arigatogozaimasu: thank you, in varying degrees of formality
