Philanthropies

Each year we are involved in several local philanthropies including:

Weekly Meetings with our Girl Scouts Troop
National Women's Friendship Day
Stand Up-Stand Out
Magazine and Christmas Seals Sales
Shamrock event for Prevent Child Abuse America & the Rocking Horse Center

Our National Philanthropies include:

Girl Scouts of America

In 1998, Kappa Delta became the first and only National Panhellenic Council group to adopt the Girl Scouts as a national philanthropy. Nationally, the Kappa Delta Foundation contributes $10,000 annually to the Girl Scout Gold Award Young Women of Distinction awards, which are ten $1,000 scholarships toward each recipient's college tuition. Our chapter actively participates with the Girl Scouts during the school year.  We even have our own troop.  When a troop completes a project with a Kappa Delta chapter, they are eligible to earn a Kappa Delta patch.

Prevent Child Abuse America

Our largest philanthropy of the year centers on Preventing Child Abuse, which has been one of Kappa Delta's national philanthropies since its beginnings in 1984. The Shamrock Project is a national Kappa Delta event, but each chapter can sponsor whatever event they choose. Our local Shamrock project is an all you can eat pancake breakfast.

Orthopedic Research

The establishment of a Kappa Delta Orthopedic Research Grant was announced at the 1947 Golden Anniversary convention. The three Kappa Delta Orthopedic Research Awards of $20,000 each are considered by the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons to be the highest recognition of excellence and promise in orthopedic research. Starting with a $1,000 contribution in 1950, Kappa Delta has given almost 1.1 million dollars to the AAOS.

Children's Hospital in Farmville, VA

Since Kappa Delta began supporting the hospital in 1921, we have donated over 2.2 million dollars.

The Dove Campaign for Real Beauty

In early 2006, Kappa Delta joined the groundbreaking Dove Campaign for Real Beauty to help raise self-esteem in girls and women. The campaign is a global effort intended to serve as a starting point for societal change and act as a catalyst for widening the definition and discussion of beauty. Girls and women of all ages benefit from the campaign as we explore what it is to be beautiful with our friends, coworkers, mothers and daughters.
