Sister
BondingFrom our Advisory Board Chairman:
Do you know what RESPSKT is??? Do you want to find out??? The Gamma Omega chapter's Advisory Board is actively recruiting alumnae in good standing as board members. No special skills are required-- just a genuine interest in guiding our collegiate sisters in Sigma Kappa!! You will have the opportunity to work closely with some of Wittenberg's most amazing young women in the capacity of your choosing. Extra help and guidance are always needed with membership recruitment but, there is always a need for further assistance with philanthropy and new member education as well. Whatever peeks your interest or seems tailored to your area of expertise, a rewarding opportunity awaits you! Please contact Jessica Boynton Shaffer, Gamma Omega 1999, Gamma Omega Advisory Board Chairman and Recruitment Supervisor ekshaffer@aol.com

From Our Members:
Lynsey Smith- member since Jan. 2007
When I told my friends and family that I had decided to join a sorority, they all reacted in the same way: “What?! You’re the LAST person I ever thought would do that!” I never even considered Greek life when I was looking at colleges, or even for the first half of my freshman year at Wittenberg. Sororities were for girly-girls who liked to gossip and wear makeup and were nothing more than drama-filled packs of girls who were all exactly alike. That definitely wasn’t for me. For all of high school, my closest friends had always been guys and I had never been particularly involved in any sports or organizations. Sorority life just didn’t appeal to me.But after a couple of weeks at Wittenberg I started to learn how diverse and involved Greek life was on our campus. I had many friends who were in fraternities and sororities, and they all advocated it as one of their favorite aspects of being a student at Witt. My misconceptions about what it meant to be in a sorority slowly faded out, but I still didn’t think it was really for me. I could appreciate why others would value being a part of a Greek house, but I didn’t think I would ever fit into something like that. This notion was completely shattered when I decided to go through recruitment just for fun this spring and came to the Sigma Kappa house for my first time. Every single girl I met made me feel completely at ease, and I didn’t feel shy or uncomfortable like I often do when I meet new people. I knew from the first day that Sigma Kappa was the house for me, and as unlikely as I thought it would be for me to go Greek, I am now a proud sister. I have not regretted my decision, despite the raised eyebrows and surprised exclamations I’ve received from my friends back home. I always tell them that they just don’t understand—that even though I never thought I would, I just somehow FIT with Sigma Kappa and I am utterly and completely happy to be a part of this house.
