Role-Playing Guild

The Wittenberg Role-Playing Guild provides a community for those interested in games on campus ranging from board games and role-playing games to miniatures and collectible card games.
During the academic year we generally
  • On Friday Nights we run Role-Playing One-shots of a wide variety of Game Systems and genres
  • On Saturday Nights we run Board Games from our wide collection of board games, as well as card games and even the occasional miniatures game
  • Once a month we hold a General Open Guild Meeting, usually the first friday of the month
  • We also do group trips to local area gaming stores so we can check out what is new and maybe pick up a few things as well
  • Of course in March we hold our own Convention, WittCON!

General Guild Meetings: Will be held on the First Fridays of every month during the school year. The next general Guild meeting is January 11th, 2019 at 8pm in Shovlin 201.

Doctor Who: Adventures in Time and Space
In the Doctor Who Roleplaying Game you and your friends take on the role of the Doctor (any one of his twelve incarnations!) and his companions (any one of them too - or you might make up your own) and embark on your own adventures across time and space.
Or you might decide to make up your own Time Lord and their own companions too, and see what happens when they set off in their own TARDIS, or create a rag-tag bunch of time agents lost in time, or a UNIT base tasked with protecting their corner of the Earth.
With the Doctor Who Roleplaying Game, the power is in your hands! You can go anywhere or anywhen in the universe. It's not going to be easy. It'll probably be dangerous. The universe is a hostile place, full of Daleks, Zygons, Sontarans, Weeping Angels, Cybermen, Silence, Silurians and worse. There will be fear, heartbreak and excitement, but above all, it'll be the trip of a lifetime.
The whole of time and space is out there, full of new places to see and adventures to be had - what are you waiting for?
    Scenario: Doctor Who
    GM: Kieran M.

The party is taken back to 1888, where suspicious murders are happening all over Whitechapel in England. People are walking down streets with mysterious stab wounds that appear in their chests, and they keel over dead. Bodies are discovered the next day, with their throats mutilated and executions of prostitutes possess a high level of surgical and anatomic knowledge. What is causing these people to die, other than some sort of magic interference? Can the Doctor and his compatriots solve the mystery of these magical murders before they are executed themselves?

Saturday Night Game Night * Weekly
    Febraury 9th, 8pm-Midnight
    Shouvlin 205
Every Saturday night we gather to play various games from board games to card games to even other games. Feel free to bring your own games to play as well. You can also drop in at anytime during the event to play a game. The games listed below will definitely be available to play, but we will also have plenty of other games.

    Agents of Smersh

Agents of SMERSH is a cooperative Storytelling game that pits players as UN Secret Service Spies set in an alternate 1970s timeline against a newly formed and independent SMERSH. The game will be able to accommodate play with either The Encounter Book that contains over 1500 written encounters with a similar reaction matrix to Tales of the Arabian Nights - or played more simply with only encounter cards with shorter encounters and no matrix. Agents of SMERSH includes custom dice to determine success or failure of encounters, and more strategic play from what is typically expected of a Storytelling board game. There are plenty of James Bond gadgets, guns, cars, pop references and detailed artwork - not to mention a touch of humor.
(This will actually be the 1st edition)

    Dutch Golden Age

Around 1600, a Golden Age started in the Northern provinces of the Low Countries. In 1602, the United East-Indian Company (VOC) was founded, the first ever company with shares. A maritime trade and transport network to the Far East was established, with fortified trade posts along the way.

The Low Countries developed steadily in many areas. The Seven Provinces were led to glory by Johan de Witt, an astute statesman who built an effective, modern navy led by superior admirals. Rich entrepreneurs were influential from many European ports to the Far East and the West Indies. William of Orange, murdered in 1584, lived on in the hearts of his people as the Father of the Fatherland. Meanwhile, success also loomed in other fields. In science, the philologist Lipsius, the naturalist Leeuwenhoek, the philosopher Spinoza and, last but not least, the father of the law of nations, Hugo Grotius all advanced their expertise considerably. In arts, the Flemish School with Rubens and Van Dyck and the Dutch School with Frans Hals, Jan Steen, Vermeer, and Rembrandt became famous.

In The Dutch Golden Age the players try to amass victory points in a variety of fields (culture, trade, arts etc.). The first player who accumulates 33 points is the overall winner.

    • Number of Players: 3-4
    • Ages: 10+
    • Play Time: 60 minutes

    Honshu

Honshu is a map building card game set in feudal Japan. Players are lords and ladies of Noble houses seeking new lands and opportunities for fame and fortune.

Honshu is played in rounds, with each round is divided into two phases. During the first phase, Map cards are revealed and the player who played the highest value card gets to pick first from those played. In phase two, the players use their chosen Map card to expand their personal maps. Each player must expand their personal maps to maximize their scoring possibilities. After 12 rounds, players will score points for lakes, forests, residential areas, and production of goods within their city.

Manipulating your position in the player order is crucial for mastering Honshu.

    • Number of Players: 2-5
    • Ages: 8+
    • Play Time: 30 minutes

    Cold Steel Wardens
It's Always Dark in Smoke City
A group of muggers thrash an innocent workman in a back alley. Mob drug runners flood the streets with filth, profiting on the backs of the addicted and hopeless. A rogue metahuman uses fantastic pyrokinetic powers to torch an entire neighborhood. The police are overwhelmed. Prisons overflow with the violent and psychotic. The innocent suffer while the guilty profit. Some say that justice is all but gone. You know better. Justice hasn't disappeared. Justice now wears a mask. Your mask.
    Never Despair! Never Surrender!

High-stakes action runs hand-in-hand with the new MAFIANAP game mechanics, which emphasize the brutal combat, the intense investigations, and the deep moral quandary found in the Iron Age of Comics. Strap on your domino mask, buckle your utility belt, and grab your grabbling hook! You are the night!
