Imperial Agent Rad Tulek looked out among the endless dunes of Tatooine. If the Rebels had a base out here, then they must have been desperate. But why else would Princess Leia have brought her consular ship here? She had received the Death Star plans and was surely planning on delivering the plans, likely to a Rebel base here on this backwater planet. But what happened to the plans? It wasn't in the main computer, no transmissions were made, and no escape pods were jettisoned. Did they erase the plans? No, the Rebellion would never do that. Still, Vader wanted answers and captured everyone on the ship, including Princess Leia.

Princess Leia. She was the senator of Alderaan, Rad's homeworld. He'd seen her in parades years ago before joining the Empire. Although Rad knew that the Empire must have been right in capturing all leaders of the Rebellion, he couldn't shake the idea that maybe his Senator had the right idea in defying the Empire. If the rumors were true, then perhaps the Emperor was afraid of this and was planning on abolishing the entire Senate.

Rad looked at the next group of people to talk to. "Name: Lars, Owen and Lars, Beru. Occupation: Moisture farmers." Being a special agent, he wasn't necessarily required to stay for another boring interview. Putting on his cloak, he informed the nearest Stormtrooper that he was going to be heading into the town of Mos Eisley to look for clues to the Rebel base there.

The Cantina Band plays a catchy tune.

Alana, the Twi'lek space pirate, looked into a shady cantina. She needed a job to pay back Jabba and if someone were to find her, this would be it. The cantina band started playing a catchy tune as she took several steps in. Suddenly, a gruff voice from the bar called out "We don't serve their kind here!" Alana looked quizically and the bartender. "The droids!" he called. Alana turned to her red Astromech droid, R4-P17, and told him to wait outside. R4 beeped in compliance and turned around. But R4 didn't stay out by the cantina and decided instead to go on a personal mission.

Soon after sitting down at a table, Alana spotted a man talk to the bartender briefly. He managed to scare two surly figures who didn't seem to like him, and then he headed towards her table. "I need to get off-world and I'm told that you've got a ship that can take me," he said anxiously. He introduced himself as Jace Mezrin and preferred that an arrangement be made with no Imperial entanglements. Eventually, Jace and Alana made a deal and agreed that Jace would be dropped off and "any world away from here."

Jace left and Alana waited a few moments to finish her drink. She got up and found herself looking at the wrong end of a blaster. <Going somewhere, space pirate?>, a familiar Rodian bounty hunter asked.

Greedo

"Look Greedo, I was just on my way to see Jabba," Alana hastily replied.

<Jabba isn't happy that you stole from him. The ship, the money, Jabba simply can't let you get away with it. You should have paid him back when you had the chance.>

"So he's sent bounty hunter scum like you after me?"

<Jabba's put a price on your head, so large that every bounty hunter in the galaxy will be looking for you. I'm lucky I found you first. >

Suddenly, Greedo felt a blaster against his back. "Lower your weapon," the voice said. Greedo did so.

<You're interfering with a friendly business transaction on behalf of Jabba the Hutt.>, Greedo said coldly.

"You will leave her alone," he said, making a hand gesture. A cloaked figure sitting at a nearby table noticed the glint of a lightsaber as his robes shifted.

<I will leave her alone. But Jabba won't be happy to hear about this...>

"You don't have to tell Jabba that you found her."

<I don't have to tell Jabba that I found her.> Greedo began to walk away.

"Thanks, Jace, for... whatever you did. We should get to my ship." Jace and Alana left in a hurry and briefly heard <Going somewhere, Solo?> before leaving. "He's going to get shot if he keeps doing that..." Alana muttered. The cloaked figure got up from the table and followed them.

Watto

Meanwhile, R4-P17 was travelling through the marketplace when he heard a Toydarian angrily complaining about a Jedi. Maybe he knew something about Obi-Wan Kenobi! The droid asked the aged shopkeeper what he was talking about.

"Those Jedis, they always ruin my life. First that one Jedi comes to take away my slave and then whatd'ya know, the slave comes back and turns out to be this crazy Jedi. And just last week, another Jedi comes and makes me lose all kinds of money. Money I got legally I tell you, legally! Why do the Jedis hate me, why?" R4 beeped a thank you and rolled away. "By the way, have you seen my chance cube? I seem to have lost it..." she heard as she rolled away. R4 got a signal from Alana to return to the ship. Sadly, R4 realized that she couldn't continue to look for Obi-Wan Kenobi, but she could still transmit the data to the Rebellion next chance she got.

Jace and Alana arrived in Docking Bay 95 first. Jace was less than impressed with the Jolly Raptor, commenting that it looked like it was over 4,000 years old, but Alana said it was a retro model that would still fly. Just as R4 finally made it back, a cloaked figure came in and announced himself as Rad Tulek. He really wanted passage on the flight and was willing to pay handsomely for it. After showing he had credits upfront, Alana happily agreed.

The Jolly Raptor flew out of the spaceport and through the atmosphere, only to discover that Imperial Star Destroyers were blockading the planet! Rad took command of the comm and put in a security code and the Star Destroyers backed off, letting them safely travel to lightspeed. When asked what the codes were, Rad simply shrugged and said they were some Imperial codes that he was lucky enough to run into. Alana told R4 to set a course for Nar shadaa, which was a good enough place as any for Jace to get lost in a crowd. Besides, she could meet up with her old friend Rael there.

R4-P17's Mission Log #4815162342

My former master, General Obi-Wan Kenboi, met up with us and gave our Rebel task force a very important mission from the Rebellion. We were ordered to infiltrate the Death Star and gather its plans to try to locate a weakness in the ships engineering. The General was unable to accompany us.

I linked into Imperial shuttle "Tydirium" and flew it to Corulag where the Death Star was at the time. The sentients discussed plans of cakes and celebrating the birthday of some Imperial Officer. HK-50 and I looked at each other in the stupidity of the meatbag's plans. I told HK my plan and he translated it to the rest of our Rebellion Task Force. Having an Imperial Agent in our midst kept HK and I on the edge. The Human Rad Tulek seemed sincere about joining the Rebellion but because he was on board the shuttle the Empire just let us land on this "moon-like" space station.

The Humans dressed in Stormtrooper armour and escourted Rad Tulek with Alana pretending to be a prisoner as I had suggested. They were the distraction while HK and I posed as Imperial droids who needed maintence. We were questioned by meatbags and for the sake of the mission HK did not exterminate them to bring attention to ourselves. I connected to a computer terminal and gathered very resourceful information. The Princess Leia was in Embassy Suite A3 in the Northern Hemisphere of the ship. The Death Star plans were located in the Engineering Department near the core of the ship. HK and I were best suited to retrieve the plans so we relayed to the Stormtroopers to go rescue the princess and we give them a sign when we had the plans.

We went in and rather simply convinced some very questioning meatbags that we were here to fix something. They were convinced until I turned off the gravity here and up in the Northern Hemisphere. HK grabbed on and provided cover for me as I hovered over to the mainframe terminal. I connected simply to its system and extracted the plans. I also managed to not give away any information to the Death Star's main computer.

While leaving I ran into an old partner of mine: R2-D2. He was malfunctioning and we did a quick repair and dragged him with us. We escaped narrowly back to Yavin IV and gave the information to the Generals to form an assault plan. And then we discovered that the Death Star was coming into range.

"General Kenobi was a general in the Clone Wars and has decided to join the Rebellion to restore the Republic so that the tragedy at Alderaan will not occur again," Dodonna explained.

"You fought in the Clone Wars?" Jace asked.

"Yes, I was once a Jedi Knight, the same as your father."

"My mother told me that he was killed by Imperial Stormtroopers."

Obi-Wan had a look of discomfort on his face. "Those Stormtroopers had a leader. A young Jedi named Darth Vader, who was a pupil of mine until he turned to evil, helped the Empire hunt down and destroy the Jedi Knights. He betrayed and murdered your father. Now the Jedi are all but extinct. Vader was seduced by the dark side of the Force."

"I'm sorry to interrupt, General Kenobi," General Dodonna said, "but we need to begin our briefing."

Everyone filed into a presentation room. General Dodonna began describing his analysis of the plans that R4-D4 had downloaded. The Empire expected a large scale assault on the Death Star and didn't consider a one-man fighter to be any threat. If a pilot travelled down the trench of the space station and reached a two-meter wide exhaust port, they could fire a proton torpedo down toward the reactor, starting a chain reaction that could destroy the battle station.

After hearing this, Alana and Rael decided instead to take the money that the Rebellion reluctantly gave them as a reward for retreiving the Death Star plans and go back to pay off Jabba. After all, what good's a reward if you're not around to spend it? The two departed in the Jolly Raptor.

Not being a pilot, Rad Tulek stayed in the command room with General Dodonna watching the battle. Evacuation transports were being prepared should the worst happen, but it looked like the Death Star would be in range of the planet before then. Jace was given R4-P17 as a droid for his X-Wing while HK-47 and R2-D2 teamed up. Garven Dreis (Red Leader) and Wedge Antilles (Red Two) made sure that everyone else was set before flying out themselves.

GM Notes: This session was really special in that the players had 30 minutes real time to destroy the Death Star. There was a PowerPoint keeping track of the time and occasionally playing movie clips about what was happening. For instance, the team shot turrets on the Death Star until a movie clip played showing that Imperial TIE Fighters had arrived.

Unfortunately, Fran and Taylor couldn't make it to this session, so because they were pirates, they decided to do what Han and Chewie did and leave with the money. Unfortunately, they didn't decide to come back. Rad Tulek couldn't fly a ship to save his life, so Kurt played Wedge Antilles (Red Two) for the night. Also Jace didn't have the ability to fly a ship very well, so R4-P17 helped him out and Jake played Garven Dreis (Red Leader).

The battle was fast and furious and despite an attempt from each player to fire the shot to destroy the Death Star, none of the players managed to hit the mark and time ran out. A clip played as the Empire destroyed Yavin IV and the Rebel base. I allowed one more parting shot before more TIE Fighters made it impossible to destroy the Death Star and they managed to hit the exhaust port. Sadly, the cost of destroying the Death Star was the Rebel Base and all those on the planet.

All in all, it was a fun and furious session that captured the intensity of the battle, and the destruction of Yavin IV (and the deaths of General Dodanna, Obi-Wan Kenobi, and Rad Tulek) were the first critical difference in our alternate universe Star Wars game.
