The Green House Program
About the Green House Program
Each house at Wittenberg is going to have its own particular character, and so one plan for becoming more environmentally friendly won’t be suitable for all situations. With that in mind, we’ve opted for a point system that allows campus houses to distinguish themselves in ways that best accord with their own particular strengths, resources, and idiosyncrasies.
Getting Started
In order to be part of the Green House Program, a fraternity and sorority need only have two features in place: an active recycling program and a Green Representative. The Green Representative agrees to take on three pretty easy tasks: to serve as contact between the house and the campus Recycling Coordinator, to stay up-to-date on the environmental developments in the organization’s house, and to complete a short annual report by May 1st describing the organization’s green initiatives over the past academic year.
Getting Ambitious
With those fundamentals in place, the Greek organization is poised to begin distinguishing itself through increasing levels of green commitment. Those levels range from Level One, which marks a group’s compliance with those two basic requirements of the Green House Program, to Level Five which can only be achieved through a range of commitments involving waste reduction, energy consumption, food options, and event planning.
