Recycling Guidelines

What can and can’t be recycled?

Paper

That includes

• printer, copier, and notebook paper of all colors (staples are o.k. but please remove paper clips)
• post-it notes
• newspapers
• magazines
• phone books

• paperback books
• junk mail
• paperboard (i.e. cereal box material)
• cardboard (reduced to a size that can fit through the slot in the bin tops)

But not
• hardback books
• wax paper and paper with wax coating (e.g. paper cups and plates)
• paper and cardboard contaminated with food (e.g. sandwich wraps and pizza boxes)

 

Glass
That includes

• bottles
• jars


But not
• broken glass
• light bulbs
• mirror and window glass
• drinking glasses and dishes

 

Plastics

That includes

• any plastic marked number 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, and 7.
• empty cups and bottles
• clean plates and utensils

But not
• styrofoam
• plastic bags (which can be recycled at many area supermarkets)
• items contaminated with food waste
• containers for automotive products, paints, solvents, and lawn care products

Metal

That includes

• aluminum and tin cans
• clean aluminum foil and pie pans
• aerosol cans


But not
• batteries
• hangers
• paint cans
• power tools and appliances
