Danny Marous, Class of 2009
When Danny Marous ’09 began his college search, he wanted a smaller school close to home with a reputation for strong academics and faculty interaction.
“I didn’t want to be just a number,” Marous says. “I’d heard stories of students in big schools where they had no support systems. They’re taught by TAs more involved in their own work, and students never see their professors. I have enjoyed getting to know my teachers both as teachers and mentors. They are here for us, and we have really cool relationships outside the classroom. We are their priority, what they are centering their lives around.”
He plans to go on to grad school for his Ph.D. and is considering teaching or medical research, which will allow him to bridge his passions for sciences and math.
Marous has not only benefitted academically at Wittenberg. From the moment he arrived on campus, he began to redefine himself. He joined the campus organization, Primetime, where he met students and alumni who share his values and beliefs. He joined members of the group on disaster-relief trips to New Orleans and Mississippi.
“I learned so much about myself,” Marous says. A desire to impact Wittenberg in a positive way has led members of the group to hold a weekly Pancake Breakfast on campus every Saturday that school is in session.
“At Wittenberg people really care about each other,” Marous says. “I’ve developed new skills and confidence, and redefined and rediscovered myself.”
