Employers prefer to use a variety of methods to recruit qualified candidates much in the same way that student organizations seek new members (e.g., posting ads, informally "spreading the word," requesting help from a third-party, like a faculty member, to reach people with whom they don't typically interact, etc.). Therefore, to be effective in your job search you need to use multiple strategies including:

  • networking with Witt alums, family, friends' parents, past employers, etc.

  • researching employers that interest you and sending them "prospecting letters"

  • applying for advertised vacancies

  • posting your resumé on Wittenberg's WittPath Job Recruiter web site, which is viewed by both employers and third-party recruiters

Did you know that most job openings are not formally advertised? By some estimates, as few as 20% are listed in newspapers and on Internet job boards. Therefore, you should allocate your job search time accordingly: spend more time pursuing leads via networking and less time searching publications and web sites for job postings.  Looking for network contacts?...check out the Tiger Career Advisors Network (TCAN).
