Information on Community Service
Summer Session 2009
IMPORTANT DATES and PROCEDURES, NOTES of INTEREST
Community Service
--Students interested in completing the community service requirement over the summer must register for CMSV 100-01 for Session I. They must attend an Orientation Wednesday, April 22nd at 5:00 p.m. in Room 105B Shouvlin Center. Students who register after April 23rd must contact the Community Service Office to schedule an Orientation.
--Although students register for Session I, they do have between May 19th until August 23rd to complete their service hours.
--Summer registration for CMSV 100-01 carries the presumption that the student will be enrolling in the Fall '09 semester. Completion requires a mandatory reflection session to be held Thursday, August 27th at 5pm.
--Students will receive an I (Incomplete grade) for Summer Session I and this grade will be changed to a S (Satisfactory grade) once they attend the mandatory reflection session during the first week of fall semester.
--No fee to register for CMSV 100 since the course is 0-credit.
--The add deadline for CMSV 100-01 registration is May 22nd. The last day to drop CMSV 100-01 is July 10th.
-- Students must complete their service at a partner site and/or in Springfield, unless the opportunity is not available or cannot be arranged by the Community Service Office. Students interested in completing service at a non-partner site must submit a Self-Design proposal to the director of Community Service for approval. Your proposal for service needs to meet the guidelines for CMSV 100 and you will need to explain how your experience will help you achieve the desired outcomes of CMSV 100. In reviewing the proposal, the Director will consider if the type of experience is available in the Springfield/Clark County community and if the gifts, skills or knowledge you would be using could be a benefit to one of the partner sites.
